Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails, one of my favorites, and why is that, because this is a condition where people come in in mild to excruciating pain and walk out feeling a lot better. So what is an ingrown toenail?  An ingrown toenail is a condition in which the nail curves down and digs into the flesh on the side of the nail. It sounds a lot worse than it is but it’s a really common condition. Now, this can be due to a congenital shape of the nail in which the nail is slightly curved and naturally digs into the flesh or sometimes it can be due to either an incomplete cutting of the nail in which a small spike of the nail is left in the corner and ends up digging into the flesh. Over time this can become a portal for bacteria to come in and it can become infected and it can actually persist for a long time. There are a lot of good treatment options for this and treatment is usually performed right in the office, it can be done on the same day as an appointment and there’s minimal downtime after this procedure and it is a lot less painful than it sounds.
